St. John and St. Thomas Wedding Photography FAQs
Sage Answers Your USVI Wedding Photography Questions
- Q: What would you call your style of photography?
- A: lot of wedding photographers (or photographers in general) get too tied to their “look or style”. I try very hard to add the wedding couple’s personality to my photographs so that they feel emotionally connected to the pictures.
- Q: I have some photos that I definitely want to be taken with friends and family members. Is that OK?
- A: Yes, it is your wedding; the more that you can bring to the photographic process, the more you will see of yourself in the style and theme of the images.
- Q: What makes you unique as a photographer?
- A: My wedding photography is contemporary, full of color and life, playful, and fun (typically wedding photography can be very rigid and posed). I don't believe that people would be getting married on the beach if they were rigid people! I try to capture images that relates to who you are, and as well as the surrounding environment.
- Q: Is there a difference in hiring a male or female wedding photographer?
- A: I believe that being a woman is an asset to being a wedding photographer (of course I would say this, because I am a woman!). The wedding day has so much to do with the bride. I always get the sense that being able to relate to the simple details relaxes the bride, like watching where her hair is, or noticing lipstick on her teeth, or a bow is crooked.
- Q: Each wedding photography package lists an exact number of images delivered, do you take more photographs then this number?
- A: Yes, I will make a lot of photographs at your wedding and edit them so that you will have a strong group of images to remember your special day.
- Q: Will it be you, personally, photographing our wedding, or will you assign another photographer that works for you?
- A: Yes, I will be the photographer at your wedding if you hire me.
- Q: When we’re ready to make additional prints do we have to order them through you?
- A: No, you can print from your high resolution disc (aka digital negatives) you will be able to make prints at any photo lab with this disc. A copyright release is printed on the disc.
- Q: Do you only photograph weddings on the beach?
- A: No, I’ll photograph a wedding at any location: villas, churches, beaches, ruins, overlooks, etc.
- Q: Do you only photograph weddings?
- A: No, I also offer portrait, family and honeymooners packages.
- Q: Most wedding guides recommend that we hire a “professional wedding photographer” for our wedding, what are your credentials?
- A: I am a full time destination wedding photographer, photographing well over 100 weddings each year in the Caribbean. I have a BFA in photography, have been creating pictures for more then 10 years, and before moving to the USVI worked in the photo district in NYC. Most importantly I love what I do, making photographs, and this makes all the difference in the world. More about Sage
- Q: What time of day should we get married on the beach?
- A: This is really up to you. The main difference between a morning wedding and a late afternoon wedding is the color and the light when the colors of the ocean and sky are really different. The ocean in the morning is a very turquoise color and in the afternoon the water has a deep blue look. I would suggest either an early morning wedding or a late afternoon wedding, when there are less people on the beach. Below are my examples:

- Q: Can we have black and white photographs made?
- A: Yes, every image can be printed all three ways; color, sepia, and black and white.
- Q: How do we reserve you as our wedding photographer?
- A: Please confirm that I have your wedding date and time available and mail a deposit to hold your wedding on my calendar.
